Mary Morison Winby,
Ph.D
Prior to joining forces with Anna Ewins in 2005, Mary worked at Hewlett Packard
for 16 years as a trainer, coach, and change management consultant. During
this time HP, experienced tremendous growth, accelerated most recently by
the Compaq merger. The company extended its reach globally both in manufacturing
and marketing. As part of this expansion, Mary played a critical role in the
globalization and transformation of the Sales Organization moving it to a
more customer-focused structure.
Mary’ worked with HP’s Professional Services organization to improve
operational excellence. This involved an organizational redesign of the consulting
deployment process from a centralized to a regional structure. For HR, she
contributed to the development and delivery of competency models for strategic
roles throughout the organization’s business units. She served as an
executive coach for several years to ensure key leadership competencies were
developed and reinforced. For IT, Mary helped redesign a key IT Lab from a
product-centric to a more customer–centric organization. In the course
of these change initiatives, Mary designed the change strategy and plans in
collaboration with management teams, leveraged different methodologies to
fit organization needs, enrolled executives as sponsors, managed implementation,
and measured impact.
Before joining Hewlett Packard, Mary was Associate Director of several federally-funded
research programs at Stanford University, which resulted in policy recommendations
at the State level, and articles for refereed journals. She has worked at
the Stanford Graduate School of Business with MBA students developing their
interpersonal and leadership skills in one of the most popular elected courses.
She is currently working at the GBS as a facilitator supporting a program
called Women in Management.
Mary received her Masters and Ph.D. in Education from Stanford University,
and a Masters in Organization Development from Pepperdine University. She
was full time faculty at San Jose State University, where she taught graduate
courses and supervised Masters students. While at HP, she was adjunct faculty
at the University of San Francisco teaching organization behavior and organization
development graduate courses.
